I had a LMT 10.5" barrel on my working shorty and the BCG would not lock back on about 1/3 of my USGI 20 round magazine on the last round.
I switched to a Sabre 10.5" and the problem went away. I also switched to the Sabre because I don't like the slightly heavier profile of the LMT 10.5"

we're not talking about a manufacturer that regularly puts out lemons, where off-hand remarks to quality control don't effect the image of the manufacturer because that imagine is already so badly tarnished. if you're going to make generalized negative comments about a respected manufacturer, expect a challenge to your statement.
you say "half dozen" LMT uppers- you've owned and had problems with 6 complete, factory, LMT uppers, and they've completely failed to support their product each time?
what problems did you have?
you haven't given us anything useful.
guns don't just short stroke because they say LMT on the barrel- there's a specific reason your weapon was short stroking, and changing the barrel is never the best fix. it's often difficult to get 10.5 builds in general to run right, as you, i'm sure, are well aware of.. and just as likely to be the case whether you use a Colt, Sabre, LMT, or even DPMother****inS.
Here's my thought. If the weapon was working prior to the installation of the flash hiders and now it's not running right I would take the flash hiders off, but the others back on and see what happens.
I am constantly amazed at how people can dick around with something and then all of a sudden it doesn't run right and it never occurs to them that the changes they made probably caused it.
Having said that the BCG and gas tube are the places that I would start since that is where the gas flows.

how are they closer to spec? what spec? i didn't know there was a "spec" for 10.5s beyond the standard requirements for all barrels- 4150cmv, chrome lining, NATO chamber, etc. LMT 10.5 gas ports are a correct .071, unless you happened to get a mis-drill or some really old .061 (if LMT ever made a .061 10.5).

you think profile, park, and FSB pins are more important than HPT and MPI testing? none of those three "sub-standard" attributes affect function.. it could easily be argued that Sabre's lack of testing could, however.
both are good enough for the DoD, as both are used by the DoD... so they obviously both meet whatever replacement-part standards exist.
speaking of profile, however- what exactly is incorrect about LMT's profile? is being a bit thicker really enough to say it's "incorrect" or "substandard?" how can LMT's profile possibly effect anything at all? i'm not aware of any compatibility issues ever occurring with LMT's barrel profile.
LMT's gas ports on their 10.5" guns are smaller than those on most other makers - so a LMT barrel could in fact be the factor if you swapped one into a gun that was set up and working with a different brand of barrel. There is a reason why LMT ships their factory 10.5" complete carbines with a standard carbine buffer (and not a H or H2).
Having said that, I've had a 10.5" LMT SBR for a while now and it has run like a top. Zero malfunctions over the 1K or so rounds I've put through it, though it hasn't been stressed by a multi-day class yet.
indeed, but it's the recommended port size for combat weapons. colt used to use .062- and maybe even still do. AFAIK, all CQBR style DoD weapons, including the mk18, use .070ish ports. so LMT ports are certainly not "substandard," and definitely not "too small," and just because changing to a barrel with a larger port (i don't know what size Sabre uses) makes a weapon run better doesn't mean thats the best fix. if it was that simple, you'd just open the port of the existing barrel. a weapon should operate on a properly balanced action, rather than over-compensate with gas.
