Don't worry Kilo, if you're like the majority of people on this forum, your thirst for more ARs will eventually overwhelm you. Its like a vampire craving blood or a zombie craving brains. They might fight it, but eventually the craving is too much.

When your AR carving eventually overwhelms you, you can get a >7" railed gun, stick an AFG on it, and all will be right in the universe.

I'd probably get another upper if I end up going down that route. I've practiced self restraint for a couple of years now, haha.

After doing some more dry runs with the overextended TD panels, I've decided to scrap it and go back something similar to my original setup. The light's moved back to the left side again so I wouldn't have to move my thumb across the top of the RAS.

The best compromise I could find was moving the AFG back 2 slots on the rail and have my support hand's thumb rest on light mount on my FSP. I also stippled my TD panels...and the texture's a lot more aggressive now.

Kind of ironic how I almost came back in a full circle.

I run mine as far forward as I can get it. It gives me a couple more inches of real estate out front where I would otherwise be gripping the barrel and FSP. I mount my light on a MI FSB mount, where I can still toggle the switch with my thumb.

I have seen other pics from the reverse angle and it is even higher... Just looking for thoughts, IT IS NOT A SLIGHT OF ANY KIND... I am here to learn, not to pass judgement.
Yeah, I'm just here to learn, too, but this is friggin' weird.

I can hardly believe that this is a real "shooting" posture. It looks like maybe he just rolled to his feet and has barely got the gun up and his left hand on it.

Not only is his right elbow too low and his left elbow too high, his eye protection is way too high, too!

as far as AFG placement goes, i pushed that sucker out as far as it would go on my 7" rail. it really does a good job of allowing me to fake-extend the rail out a few inches. i could never get a good thumbs forward grip on it before without accidentally burning my fingers on the barrel. now it's not such a problem.

but a 7" rail is really limited when using that type of grip. it's not ergonomically feasible to run lights/lasers on such a limited space. i'm keeping this one a bare bones simple carbine.

just watch Noveske 3 gun team use the grip technique that the AFG expands on. The difference with the AFG is the angle gives the wrist a more neutral position and results in less strain as compared to a straight handguard

I think yall are over-analyzing a single picture

I just got the AFG so I haven't tried it out yet, but...

I use the technique that it builds on with my 7" rail with no problems. The only difference is that you have to raise your support elbow in order to use it effectively. This still gives you great control of the rifle even on the shorter rail systems.

Some people have complained about having to "chicken wing" their support elbow, however I do not see this as a problem. The reason we don't raise the elbow of the shooting hand is because when shooting around cover, the elbow would be presented before the eye/muzzle. When you raise the support elbow it stays in front the body so it does not change your profile in relation to your target and when you shoot around cover on your support side you should switch hands so it does not effect this either.

That being said, I am still looking for a new rail that would allow me to move the AFG further out on the rifle. I kind of like the DD Rails with the cut out for the FSP.
