On my gun, this detent spring is blue, not to be confused with blue bolt carrier spring everyone else is talking about.

You're not out of your mind. My MOE grip was the same way. I added a little JB weld putty to the grip where the detent would rest. Once it dried I sanded it flush. The detent can now rest on it the grip can go on just fine.

They do, but be warned. I tried KAC covers and they slid around and didn't stay in place. I have since switched to XTMs.
