Would lights also be smoked? It would really suck not having a flash light! I resisted the red dot sight and pistol grip for years. I love the RDS but think I'm going to ditch the fore grip on future guns and go for moe grips to mount a light.

Incadescents (traditional bulb) lights will be OK, LEDs I'm not sure. They may be OK as well due to their small size and insulation. Personally I think they would survive but I'm not sure, this is my opinion. The only lights that would be at risk are lights with circuitry, such as LEDs. I have 4 Surefires' 3 are LEDs, 1 incadescent and a spare incadescent bulb. So at least, or worst, I will still have two working lights.

Meh, just go with an ACOG or other non electronic optic. Then you can have magnification, and use BUIS for anything close up. I wont lose sleep over my RDS not working in the event of EMP or similar.

If you are in any way directing this post at me, then no worries, I actually thought your first post was kinda funny I've had my ear to the ground (so to speak) for a while on EMPs but never considered it's far reaching effects (or potential effects) on a society like ours until I read the book (One Second After). Then I kicked up my efforts on researching it. There are many disagreements when it comes to the effects of an EMP, in these cases I personally try to get as much information as possible. I feel it gives me a slightly more clear picture than basing my thoughts off a single report. The good news, if there is any, is that just by doing general preprations for any unknown, unforeseen disaster (blizzard, hurricane etc) we are also preparing for a possible EMP or any number of causes of a breakdown. An EMP threat only requires a little additional thought into how to protect a few wanted/needed electronically controlled items. Aimpoints fall onto that list, for me personally anyway, along with a vehicle that will continue to run. This is not something that I loose any sleep over but rather keep in the back of my mind as I take ongoing small steps in my general preprations.

Thanks for the kind words, no offense was taken at all. And with your thoughts in mind I too would like to thank payj for contacting Aimpoint with this question.

Its all good. I expected a response like that

My whole thing is if you have an open mind then you can at least prepare to an extent of something like this happening. Unless you have millions in the bank fully preparing would be tough. But at the very least you could be ahead of 99% of the people and actually know what is going on.

LOL... MW2 only has EOTech's and some random RDS not an Aimpoint, but the part of the game where the EMP disables your RDS really sucks cause you cant take it off and use irons... Ur just stuck using a non working RDS.

Honestly, one of the thing I thought about when reading the book "Holy poop, my Aimpoint won't work." LOL

If you are looking for a way to store equipment sensitive to EMP I think the handiest way to get the Faraday cage you need is to just use old microwave ovens. If they keep microwaves in they should keep a EMP out.

I'm sure that since we would be looking for ones that don't function, they should be available fairly cheaply

Well, this post makes me happy that I just forked over dough for an ACOG. Now I don't have to worry about it one way or the other...
