Someone offered me a midlength Midwest Ind. railed hand guard for delta ring type rifles, but I have a carbine length gas system. If I put a low profile gas block on the carbine and moved the FSB forward to support the hand guard cap, would this work?

It could be made to work, but would be more expensive and labor intensive than it was worth. Either get a rail that works with your current gas system set-up or get a good free-float of appropriate length and shave the FSB into a gas block.

is there a way to make the Magpul handguards free-float?

in the works perhaps now that they have carbine, mid-length and rifle lengths?

I have wondered that too. Can you free float them?

For a free float I HIGHLY recommend the LaRue Tactical...They also make a low pro gas block that perfectly fits under their FEs (imagine that!). The quality of their products is second to none and their warranty and customer service is THE BEST!
