I plan to explore that a good deal when my lightweight gets here in comparison with my standard middy.

I look forward to shooting this upper...it seems to balance really well.

    Thank you BCM!

The upper above is BCM's lightweight middy with a VTAC 11" EXTREME BattleRail tube assembled by BCM. With the DD front sight, VTAC low profile sling mount, Troy rear sight, BCG and CH, the upper came in at 6lbs 3.6oz on my scale.

My standard BCM middy upper with RRA handguards, MI FSB rail, Streamlight "tactical illuminator" mount, VTAC low profile sling mount, Troy rear sight, BCG and CH measured 7lbs 1.4 ounces on the same scale. I think my cheap scale may be a bit sketchy, as it does not feel like a 13+oz difference, but the difference is noticeable. The biggest change is in how the rifle balances. It feels much more lively with less weight out front. Can't wait to run this one hard. I think I finally have my dream duty rifle.

I love lwt pencil uppers, always have. Past days it was the 16" the Colt LW Sporters and there wasn't much else. I've had a few. A joy to carry, fun to shoot. As Paul said in the other thread, this came about as a solution to fatigue. But I still think heat is a huge issue if you're not just plinking. Was said they heat fast...for sure. Cool faster then gov't...I guess in theory-under the handguards. But once the metal is hot it's going to heat again that much more quickly upon resumption of fire, much faster then a gov't. I'll get another, for my wife, but the shooters will be standards. The fact that, under the FSB, BCM kept it .750 is also smart for heat dissipation.

I asked BCM what they used for the low profile gas block. Here is the response:

    >We use our own low pro gas block, similar to PRI, YHM, Troy, Stag type.
    >Its dimpled, set screw, high temp loc tite

Thanks for that - out of curiosity does anyone think it should also be pinned, or would this combo be good enough? (New to low pro gas blocks)

Grant u have light BCM uppers?

If so, where can I find them on your site? I'm thinking BCM lower but would entertain your DD lower. I kinda like the flared mag well of the DD. How do you think they would mate up? If I buy both upper and lower from you am I going to have to pay the feds the 11% xtra for a complete rifle?

    Thanks,
