    DD M4 Front sight question

so I am getting ready to order my first M4, going to go with the Daniel Defense, but one of the only things I dont like about it is the front iron sight (see pic below).

It seems with that forearm, it doesnt leave me alot of options to put a pop up front sight. I really do like this style Omega rail though. Is there any draw back to having that fixed Iron sight?

Is there anything I can do with that front sight? I plan on getting an EOTech, Aimpoint, or some optic rather soon after i get the M4.

The front sight isn't important, it's the rear sight you want out of the way with an aimpoint or eotech. The pinned front sight is also more durable and reliable than a rail mounted sight.

I don't know anything about the pinned flip up you have in the second picture, so I can't give an opinion about the difference between that and the fixed one.

I know the rear is removable thankfully. I guess the front being fixed isnt that big of a deal since I will still use it with whatever optical sight I go with, i was just curious about the design, other than that, i love what the DDM4 offers and cant wait to order it

It is a LOT of rifle for the money, I wouldn't change a thing. I'm waiting to build a DD upper with a pencil barrel and that rail.

Search on absolute co-witness and lower 1/3 co-witness. These are the two methods for mounting a RDS. The lower 1/3 means the fixed front sight (FSB) is in the lower 1/3 view through the Aimpoint. This only requires a mount that is ~.18" higher than an absolute (same level as center-optic.

RDS are parallax free so you can even leave the rear BUIS in place and just look over the top. The advantage is if the RDS goes out you can still use your irons through the tube.

A folding rear sight is an advantage should you go to a magnified optic as it can be folded down out of the way. There are lots of different options (and opinions) on all this.

I have left my fixed rear on the gun so far with an Aimpoint. So far I don't mind it at all but my opinion my change..it is a nice rear fixed sight though. If you check pg.269 of the ar pic thread you'll see my DDM4.

I have a DDM4 and It is a great rifle out of the box. I swapped out my rear sight for a Larue BUIS ( like the QD of the Larue) and added a T1 with a high mount. You hardly notice the front sight. good 1/3 co witness with the DD fixed rear and Larue BUIS. My advice is try out the sights the DD comes with and go from there( they are pretty hard to beat)
