Question FN PBR vs. FN PBR XP?

I am looking for a bolt action and I like the FN PBR [PATROL BOLT RIFLE] and the FN PBR XP

My question to anyone familiar with the PBRs what is the difference between the two?

I have read and re-read the pages on the fnhusa.com site and I must be missing something. I'm stumped.

    Thanks in advance.

Really the only difference is the bolt, and stock color

The FN PBR (Which I have and love) has a standard, winchester push feed bolt. Or a straight bolt as some call it. With a medium heavy barrel. Sitting in a black Hogue stock with full length aluminum bedding block. Free floated of course.

The difference of the FN PBR XP, is that it has the same bolt as the FN SPR line of rifles with the big claw extractor. The XP barrels are usually fluted as well to cut down on weight, and there hogue stock is indentical except that it is usually an OD green.

To make a long story short the XP is basiclly an upgraded PBR. That upgrade though really doesn't extend beyond the bolt (and thus, slightly reshaped inside of the reciever) Guys who own an FN SPR will swear buy the claw extractor and say it is the only way to go. But I dont personally think the XP is worth the extra cash. You can usually find a brand new PBR for around $650 if you look. PBR XP's are all over $1,000. For that cash you can just add $200 more dollars and pick up an FN SPR A1 (and have a premo rifle) for around $1,200.

So if I found a FN Herstal PBR XP .308 DBM 20" Full Barrel Model # 21856 for $796.40 brand new I should buy it?

If you can pick it up for that price, then yeah get it. That is a smoking deal. At the last vegas gun show they were all over $1,000. And even a dealer buddy of mine said he could get one for me for around $920. So if it is under $800 like you say it is grab it quick.

The rifle was still there for $796 so I bought it the MSRP on the PBRs is $1,200 and $1,400 on the XPs, so I couldn't say no at $796 for an XP.
