    16" rifle length uppers

I've been seeing some pics of these lately and they interest me. Are these custom cut to size, or are they in production?

Do you mean like the below BCM weapon, or do you mean a 16" with rifle FSB?

Are you talking about a 16" barrel with a mid length gas system and rifle front sight base.

I think what I've been seeing is a 16" barrel with rifle length gas system. At least the FSB was rifle length.

The FSB being out that far, and it being actually a rifle gas system are two different things. I've got some pictures of a project that can't be shown at this point, so I'll have to play tease for right now (sorry).

The midlength seems to be the best all around player, and a rifle length rail puts the sights out where they work best.

Adco has one. It probably wont come out lighter than a 16" with a 12" rail though.

I imagine that you've seen a 16" version of this.

Where the actual gas system is mid-length hidden underneath a rail with fixed front sight at rifle length.

I like mid-length gas, fixed front sights, long rails/handguards, and a longer sight radius is always great. But at what point does it just get excessive?

Defensive Edge/SLR15 commander has rifle length sight radius (not sure what length gas system). I recall you used to be able to get just the upper from Sully; guess you can give them a call.

Off-topic, but wow. They have this written on that page:

"The covered barrel is a plus, because if the raw barrel is touched to anything like a barricade/cover during the firing process, the harmonic vibrations of the barrel will be interupted, and the shot will not go where the shooter intends. A covered barrel does not get interrupted during the shot."

So I guess the non-free-floated handguard that the barrel is touching doesn't qualify as actually "touching."
