    Railed forearm query

I currently have a Yankee Hill 7-inch rail on my LMT M4-type rifle. Some folks here have suggested I try another brand. Would a LaRue be a good choice, or would a Daniel Defense be better?

    Thanks!

I'm about to replace my YHM lightweight rail with a Troy extreme battlerail. The Troy is lighter and way thinner. I have the rail but I haven't had the chance to mount it yet but it sure feels better.

You really cant go wrong with LaRue, Daniel Defense, or Troy. I have two Daniel Defense Lite rails, and one Omega rail and I absolutley love them. I also have a Troy battle rail on another gun and it's great as well. I have never owned a LaRue, but I have shot other people's guns that had one. I am planning on using a LaRue in my next build. It really just comes down to personal preference between these rails. They are all light weight and strong, they just mount a little different.

Which of these rails was the easiest to mount?

Having the DD Omega 7.0 on my piece, I heartily recommend it to everyone that asks about it. It's a cinch to mount and can be done by the most technically inept person in about 10 minutes. They're about the thinnest FF handguards I've seen, and I absolutely love them. They are rock solid and don't weigh much at all.

The Troy MRF is pretty easy to mount. The DD is probably a little better overall, but for the price, I'd stick with my Troy. IIRC the Troy is about $100 less than DD.

if you dont want free float, you can get drop in handguards which basically install the same way as plastic ones. They are intended to be used with front sight towers, they arent stable enough to mount optics on.

Why? Is there something wrong with your YHM handguard? Or is it not free-floated? Why have some people suggested you try another brand?

I have never used a larue rail but everything else i have bought from them has been top notch. I did just install a daniel defense Omega X 12" fsb rail on my rifle though and it seems pretty solid... I have only taken it out to test it after putting it back together but i am going to try to get some heavier use out of it soon and i'll let you know how it holds up.

I don't think you could go wrong with either choice
