I prefer the LT rail but that is simply preference. The quality of DD and LT IMHO are pretty close...

When you are looking at the LaRue and the DD you are looking at some of the best so you can't really go wrong. The newer Troy rails are awesome too, that's what I'm planning for my next build.
    Keep up the good fight

I like the DD LITE rail the best for its light weight and smart design, though the Larue rail is stronger, cheaper, and has a built in QD socket.

I'd go with what your budget and aesthetics preferred.

What I have been told is the YHM rails "are not highly regarded". I haven't experienced any problems with mine (it is free-floating), but I am considering changing to another...but only if I am convinced I can get something that is truly better for my needs.

    Ha! I figured as much!

So, what are your needs, exactly? You say you haven't experienced any problems with your YHM handguard, correct? Hmm... Which model YHM handguard do you have? Did you buy it, or did it come with your rifle?

I haven't experienced any problems with my YHM handguard, either. I also haven't experienced anyone telling me it 'isn't highly regarded.' Although now I suppose the comments/advice will start pouring in.

I'm not an operator; just an enthusiast. My YHM handguard has served me well. Being of sound mind and body, I actually purchased another YHM handguard a few weeks ago for an upper build. I'm all for changing out parts 'just because,' but I wouldn't be inclined to do so just because someone doesn't like what I have.

The YHM rail (7-inch, unsure which model) came on the upper when I bought it from the previous owner. There are rumors of out-of-spec rails on YHM forearms, but mine seems to be just fine...no problems yet, anyhow. Of course, the only things I currently have mounted on it are a MagPul AFG and a DD side-sling adaptor.

I also am only an enthusiast, but I would like to have a high-quality rifle just in case I have to do something more than simple target shooting.

There are two Omegas at our house. Run a search for Omega and you will see that they are very well respected here. Slim , light , DIY installation , and very well made.

I have only taken it out to test it after putting it back together but i am going to try to get some heavier use out of it soon and i'll let you know how it holds up.

I don't think you could go wrong with either choice
So I took my rifle out and ran about 200 rounds through it the other day. I really like this rail. It is very solid and it is thin so it is easier to grip and carry. The only issue which is not really an issue is that, because it is thin it is hard to get some mounts next to each other on the rails... i.e. i have to move my AFG further back on the bottom rail due to the larue light mount on the side rail.

    Aren't they heavy?

For 7" that isn't something I'd worry about too much, but I don't run classes.

Since the OP has the free float model it’s not going to be as simple as pulling off one and slapping on another. He is going to need a standard barrel nut and delta ring assy and front hand guard cap. And unless he has the tools to do it, it will not be DIY.
Sounds like a lot of work to replace something that seems to be working.
