MEU(SOC) "Old Version" Replica on a Colt Series 70

The replica of the MEUSOC 1911 continues to be the most popular pistol that I build. I just finished this one and took a few snapshots before sending it back home to its owner.

A close up of the grip safety. Since Clark has discontinued their grip safety, I modify an Olympic Arms grip safety to look like it. This involves re-cutting the grip safety radius to .250 and a lot of grinding and shaping. The Kings ambi thumb safety is also no longer available so the Marines at PWS now use an Ed Brown. The wide ambi has been narrowed and reshaped.

Beveled mag well and GI lanyard loop on a flat serrated mainspring housing.

MEU(SOC) fixed rear sight made from pre-hardened 4140 steel to take some abuse. The front sight is an old-fashioned Millet that has been silver soldered to the slide.

GI-style barrel bushing and crown. The barrel is a Wilson and both the stainless steel barrel and bushing have been blackened.

    So nice!
Let those who are fond of blaming and finding fault, while they sit safely at home, ask, ‘Why did you not do thus and so?’I wish they were on this voyage; I well believe that another voyage of a different kind awaits them.”

Many good things come from Texas. Your craftsmanship is very high on that list, sir.

Great work, I have always been a sucker for those.

Since my original 1911 was slightly molested before I got it, something like this may be way cool to have built from it. Now that I have a good solid CCW, maybe its time for a fun/cool gun. Hmmm
