First rifle I ever painted turned out like crap. I used Aervoe spray paint, followed the directions to the T, still turned out like crap.
It scared me off from painting any of my rifles for a very long time. The best way to deal with it is to say…**** it! I’m painting this bitch today! Then follow through with it.
I just got done with my third one this morning. Middle rifle in the picture. Rustoleum camo spray paint. Zero ****s given. Turned out pretty good.

Stick
Board policy mandates I state that I shoot for BCM. I have also done work for 200 or so manufacturers within the firearm community. I am prior service, a full time LEO, firearm instructor, armorer, TL, martial arts instructor, and all around good guy.
I also shoot and write for various publications. Let me know if you know cool secrets or have toys worthy of an article...

I’ve got a “cast coat iron” can that I’ve instead used to paint old metal parts in my house (doorbell cover, light switch clever). I don’t use as much as most, but I do use my guns. The idea of a non-camo, single color paint scheme wearing off unevenly unnerves me.
