So I was sitting around the house yesterday and decided to experiment. Not sure about the durability of the finish but I figured what the heck. Grabbed a can of automotive interior paint from a broken panel and gauge pod I put in my Mustang. Purchased the can with the pod and new piece and was pretty amazed how well it worked. It is designed for "soft plastic" pieces like that of a door panel insert or an A-pillar pod. Since the ole AR has some plastic on it I stripped it down and shot a few coats on the furniture. The result was much better then I thought it would be. We'll see how it holds up the next time I go out but here is the result.

Sorry for the crappy pics, only have my cell camera now.

Nice! Does your mustang have a Foliage Green interior?

I took the plunge and painted my rifle yesterday. Didn't intend to paint the optics but it's kind of hard to stop once you get started.
Base coat of Krylon khaki, then green and brown added via mesh laundry bag netting placed over portions.
Quick drying, took about an hour to do the whole thing.

I decided to go with a basic OD Green with my first paint job.

In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.
