Coasties? Um, don't you mean GUARDIANS?
no...that came after the kevin costner/ashton kutcher movie...which in my opinion, sucked...
Coasties is good folks.
A couple of guys I went through grunt school with, became gunners mates when they got out of the Corps. They already knew the M-60, and did not have to lug it as far aboard a cutter.
They said they liked what they saw, when they reported aboard.
I work in in the marine industry on passenger vessels so I work pretty closely with a variety of Coasties....marine inspectors, LE boarding teams, investigators, etc...and just about all of them have been extremely professional and well-grounded. I also think it's impressive how they handle such a wide variety of missions like law enforcement, search and rescue, regulatory compliance, and even air defense.
My Coast Guard experience ended 22 or so years ago. I'm proud to have been a Coastie. I spent my 6 years in Engineering Duty Afloat and Marine Inspection all of which went a long way towards my career in overhauling old flat topped Navy Ships.

WTF.overMy name is Chief Dennis, and I am a recruiter for the coastal North Carolina area. I appreciate your interest in the Coast Guard and your service to our country. There are no active-duty positions available. If you are interested in the Coast Guard reserve, fill out the attached application and return it to us. We will evaluate it to determine if you are initially qualified to join. Best Regards,
My father was a Coastie, Great Lakes and Sault Ste. Marie, I've always been proud of him. That was Viet Nam era. He'd enlisted before things got hot over there, so it wasn't like he was dodging anything. He has some pretty great stories, rescues and fishing out bodies . . . he was pretty straight laced and it seems was always bailing out buddies who weren't, so I guess it wasn't always all straight-like.
