I was there for 8days in April, for their 3day Advanced Handgun and 5day Precision/Designated Marksmen Course.

how was it? is it worth going to? I'm thinking about taking the carbine training course in a few months.

Definitely worth it. Best bang for the buck out there right now, without a doubt.

TJ Pilling (owner/head instructor) is a no bullshit, been there, done that, got the t-shirt type of guy. Depending on who AIs, there will be alot of experience from real world gunfights at the course.

Be prepared to shoot ALOT of rounds. It will be a very good test of your primary guns and gear.

I wrote a review on the 3day pistol course, and slacked and never did the precision course. http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=13&t=455459

I have shot there several times in the last two years, T.J. and crew put on very good events on a great range. We rented the range for a long range shoot last April, i finally got to shoot at 1 K. They have real pits too, you get to pull targets some and shoot some. Their training courses are high round count , from what i gather. Good people, for sure. Now that T.J. is full-time at Tiger Valley, i expect he will start having more shoots.

I've known and worked with TJ in our respective agency's training ops for a long time (~15 years) and he's a top notch trainer. He took a city PD that has historically been involved in LOTS of shootings and elevated their performance to where they were having gunfight hit rates around 90% under his direct training.

He's also been there, done that and has truly "seen the elephant" in a couple of ways. I can very highly recommend him...

I attended his 3 day pistol class in Feb. 06. He is by far one of the best instructors I've met.
As previously stated, you will shoot alot. We shot around 2000 rounds for the 3 days. If you have any questions call T.J. He'll tell you anything you want to know and he is very easy to talk to.

    Thumbs up

We send our entry team to Tiger Valley quarterly for training. T.J. is absolutely one of my favorite instructors. Our last train-up was a combination of entry and high-risk vehicle escort, and his preparation for the course and devious scenarios exceeded our expectations.

    I would agree with Steve.

While TJ wants to incorporate some things that will hopefully be assimilated down to the subconscious level, he also thinks outside the box to get you to think conceptually.

For example, 1 paintball gun and 10 students...discuss among yourselves

T.J. is definitely a no BS instructor. I have been to numerous handgun, pistol and shotgun courses out at Tiger Valley. I am a fellow officer and on the swat team that T.J. was a sniper on.

Everyone on our team can vouch for me when I say his courses are some of the most realistic and challenging you will find. He makes you think out of the box and puts you through high speed realistic training that will definitley be a benefit to whatever type of shooting you do. Trust me when I say you will find flaws in your shooting and techniques and he will help you fix those flaws. His courses will also test your equipment and gear issues which will also be resolved during training.

His facility is one of the best I have seen and reminds me of our ranges in the Marines. He has a 1000 meter KD range with full butts that can accomodate over 20 shooters per string. He also has numerous short ranges to conduct CQB and swat training and provide 180 degree shooting. It is definitely worth the trip if you get the chance go!

Just don't be the first guy to fall asleep if you are bunking at the range facility! I made that mistake my first trip!
Your lowest form of training will be your highest performance in combat!
