The pre 1900's in to the 20's you had opiates, 30's-50's had methamphetamine's, 60's - 80's had it's fun with hallucinogenics and cocaine, the 90's had crack cocaine. The only reason you see it now bigger than 30 years ago is due to enforcement. It's big business on both sides so it's in the spotlight.

People have nostalgia for times that never existed, today people live longer, healthier, and have a far higher quality of life than the generations before them.

In these great times of the past people like to forget the shit that went on behind doors, child molestation, wife beating, rape, drugs, it was taboo to even speak about such things, so people acted as if it didn't happen. To have a child out of wedlock was bad enough, to get raped... Well that was just something that didn't happen. Hell couples on TV slept in separate beds and never took a shit.

Progressives long for a future that can never be.

Conservatives long for a past that never was.

...While libertarians long for a present not being subjected to these illusions.
