Generally 2nd degree sunburn is sun poisining and it sucks ass I had it when I was 10. I had gumball sized blisters covering my entire upper body and my skin turned green, took like 3 weeks to go away. The thought of that hell still makes me wince 21 years later. Lesson learned, pale white kid + no shirt in a boat on an overcast day=bad juju

also i'd like to add at this point that my people hail from ireland and germany, the two palest races known to man..

needless to say i burn very well, very very well.

so i've had classes on combat mindset and i'd like to think i practice it fairly often if not all the time.. well when you have 2nd degree burns on half of your body.. you tend to avoid the casual slap or high-five or head rub. yes it hurts that bad. and the next person to touch me is going to get a high-five to the face.. already gotten in two kids and my chiefs face for touching or attempting to touch my leather/beef jerky skin.

so for now i look like mr. krabs and next week i'll be playing as the lizard man..
Deployment........beach.......???? I wouldnt necessarily say thats "god awful". The deployments ive been on have been to beaches too i guess(desert) .....but the water is a little further away. Sun burn does suck though, i feel for you.

    for next time

This is not to Monday morning QB, just to share what's worked well for me. Bullfrog is your friend http://www.bullfrogsunblock.com/super.html

I've worn this stuff during volleyball tournaments, canoe trips - you name it and it doesn't sweat off. For better protection you'd have to go to Sherwin Williams.

one thing I learned living in Hawaii most my life is never use pure aloe on sunburn ! use a good moisturizer with it !!!!

Aloe alone will dry out the skin making it tighter feeling and more sore

yes it helps heal but use the two together ! sure a google might turn up info ?

also you dont want a greasy moisturizer as that will trap heat in

    Cool

Doesn't no not to stay out of the hot sun. Now you know what a Lobster feels like. I'll be doing some sun bathing Wednesday for an hour or so. Plus no sun block.

The sun is evil! I am joking, but I been there and done that eons ago when I was in Jr. High. Blisters on my back where nearly an inch high. I laid on my belly for a week, and all I remember is how much I hated the Arseno Hall show. My North European red headed butt learned a valuable lesson that summer. Sunblock is your buddy. Limit your exposure however you may and can, and hats are your friend.
