Here's a good technical explanation of bolt hardness:
    http://www.rockcrawler.com/techrepor...ners/index.asp

A determined thief will destroy the floor before they break a properly sized bolt.

I don't have anything in writing, but I remember seeing where hardened bolts may shear where a grade 5 would only have bent. That can be a safety issue in some automotive or industrial applications. I don't think that will be an issue in your application but thought it was an interesting side bar.

Side note - I'm in your neck of the woods, Portland, for the night. Or hippie dippy patchouli-ville from the looks of it
Club 205 on SE stark, about two blocks up from I205, and Jody's on 122nd and Glisan are two good places in portland.

the rest of the city is worthless, and i enter it only when necessary and with great distaste. sounds like you're over in NW/downtown area.

If a thief has enough time and desire to bring a torch to cut through your safe, you can kiss your goodies goodbye, if anything the explosives sticker would make him want in it that much more(I'm guessing black market explosive prices are pretty steep.)

Chances are he's grabbing loose items and looking at your safe like "**** I can't get into that..." and leaves.

but why would you use a torch when you can grind? even the toughest of steels quickly fall to the angle-grinder with a hard-steel wheel... cut a nice rectangle in the steel, switch to a masonry blade to cut through the ceramic- or just hit it with a chisel bit in a rotohammer. couldn't be any worse than a lot of the demolition we do on a regular basis on the job site.

That's my thing. If he's the kind of guy that's prepared to actually crack a Ft. Knox, no sticker is going to deter him. If it's a safe he's seen while there as a worker/whatever, and dumb enough to believe that somehow you have the legal ability to store explosives in your neighborhood, then the sticker could hurt you.

If you're bolting to concrete, Hilti Kwik Bolt anchor bolts are tops. ITW Red Head wedge anchors are easier to find somethings though. The wedge and sleeve type anchor bolts work in "bottomless" holes. Drill the hole deeper then the overall bolt length. You'll be thankful later if you ever need to move/remove the safe.

Whats a common explosive that would scare a smart thief. I want to put an authentic decal that will deter experiance thieves. Is there a common flamable substance such as black powder or fireworks that would make it dangerous for them to simply drill or hit with a sledge hammer? Im sure anything will deter them from welding but whats something that would really scare them. Whats the 1.1?
