    I'd buy a 3.5" S&W 357 Magnum.

HK45, HK45C or P30 (now out in 40SW!). Go for the LEM trigger, it is in my opinion the end all, be all trigger for a defensive pistol.

if i had to spend 1000 bucks on the gun i'd go with an HK45C or an HK p7

    otherwise, pick up 2 glocks
or a glock, a reloading press, and 2000 rounds of components or something.

    Several thoughts:

    1. Take your wife on a nice 3-day trip for $1,000. These are called "brownie points"; be advised shelf life disappears with one smartass comment.

    2. Buy 2 G19s factory direct as a LEO (one to shoot the piss out of, the other for carry), and 1,000 rounds of ball. When you're off duty, the 27 may hide a little easier but with no fast BUH (backup humans), more BBs on tap is a good thing.

    3. Find a used Ruger .22 pistol, thread the barrel, get a suppressor and tax stamp. Lots of fun!
