need to have a mall ninja vs armchair commando episode
Their SOF vs SPETSNAZ was a joke. Ballistic knife? Give me a break.
Only episode I ever watched through the entire way because the one Spetsnaz guy is on some AK training video I have.
I second the notion on the mall ninja vs armchair commando.
I saw said AK video, and while some of the hand manipulations and less than lethal stuff looked interesting (though I wonder how much it is BS when done full speed), all of the combat rolls and backhand springs look just as awkward and useless there as they do in the Spetsnaz vs. SF episode. The guy's name is Sonny Puzikas, a former Spetsnaz member from Lithuania. Its slightly problematic to me that when the guy shows all his techniques and rolls and other BS, he never puts on a plate carrier or even simple vest, or show how you would work with a backpack and all such things. In other words, either the Spetsnaz walked around without any gear (not likely), or he's not teaching the combat-based skills he advertises.
I don't have cable (can you believe that?) but when I was watching my friend's house for him I stumbled upon this show and watched Pirate (the 1600s kind, not the AK/RPG wielding Somali/SE Asian kind) vs Knight.
I didn't finish the episode but it went something like this:
Pirates: "Pirates have guns and grenades!!1"
Knights: "But they won't penetrate the knight's armor to do fatal damage!!11!"
Sonny explained it in the aftershow on Spike.com that their loadout (chest rigs/armor) were situation dependant (i.e. dynamic entry) and rarely used. There was an SOF representative there as well that said the same. One thing that should be kept in mind when reviewing the comparisons is that Sonny and Max haven't been with Spetsnaz for a while and I'm sure most of you are aware that a typical combat loadout today is different than it was 10 or 15 years ago.
And I agree the ballistic knife was BS. There were many issues with that episode. They should have done a straight up comparison between the Spetsnaz shovel and e-tool. The show provided the combloc weapons/equipment (note the sporter stock on the Saiga...) while SOF was allowed to bring their personal gear.
I havent seen this show.
Would they do Delta/DevGRU vs SAS, or is it only like Pirate VS American Indian type stuff?
I wish I had a future in SOF.
