Dominick's mother, Corrine Baker, was present for at least some of the beating and tried to shield the boy from Hayes' aggression, authorities said.
"She tried to lay on top of the child to guard the child against being beat any further, but she was beat in the process," according to the police chief.

Sickening. This boy's mother should have done everything humanly possible to remove her child from this man - she was clearly able to remove herself. If nothing else she should have physically shielded him until the asshole that did this killed her and only then should he have been able to get to her son. She's as guilty as if she'd beat the child.

the line you quoted actually made me hate her more.. the thought of her being so pathetically weak minded and weak willed that she'd just passively lie on the kid in some worthless effort to help him.. when she should have been biting/clawing/scratching/kicking/SHOOTING his ass.

If mom was functioning at a reasonable level in the first place she wouldn't have been with such an abusive asshole in the first place....but single women with small kids have a talent for finding the biggest scumbag in the pool and shacking up with him for some reason.

Of course, but since these actions are often both legally prohibited as well as likely geographically impossible, the only other options one has is to hurt or dismiss. Thinking about what I would do, if I even could (and would absolutely love to), does little for me anymore.

I've got two assholes in my jail right now for exactly the same thing. It kills me that it's my job to keep these mother****ers alive and relatively unharmed until they go to trial. And yes, they have to be segregated along with all the child-molesters so that they aren't beaten/killed by the other inmates.
