Since it's a back up, the intent is to collapse to avoid damage. No worries, just suggesting an alternative.

I had one probably 3-4 years ago and it was nice - I wanted a URX to match it up with but couldn't find one at the time. Since I paid so much for it I wanted to make an "ultimate" set up but that never happened. And at the time no one wanted to mess it up trying to pin it to the barrel...

i got a vltor thinking it would be similar to the kac unit, as mentioned above the ak sight post is too wide for my tastes. Also the unit seemed to be cast from aluminum which coincidentally broke

Oh I know, I just wish it had a little more resistance, a little snap in or something.

I would also look at the ARMs front sight, I actually wish I had that instead of the Vltor. But I do admit the Vltor is sexy. Gunrunner, what makes you think cast? Mine is very clean and nice billet.

Is yours billet steel or billet aluminum? Mines cast because you can see the parting lines and injector marks plain as day. The reason I'm asking is because I have reason to think I maybe have gotten a knock off unit 2nd hand. I've contacted vltor but haven't received any response to confirm or deny my inquiries.

I'm getting ready to do a 20"BCM, standard hg's. Right now, the Vltor is what I'm looking at to replace the fsb-maybe.

They weren't available when I built my ban compliant SAM-R so I went with a PRI, which served my purpose because it didn't have a bayo lug anyway (New York). No way I was spending that much on a FSB gas block (especially if I had to saw off the lug).

Yes, I know the swivel mount is upside down. This build isn't really done anyway. Needs optics and a lower.
