Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum
They will never do this BECAUSE ............. the world would end as we know it. Social order would break down and unless the National Guard and local cops wants to open fire on a riot, they wouldn't stop.
It wont take zombies or EMP or even economic breakdown to cause all the PAW story lines to become reality..... just a break down in the checks not coming in the mail.
One could also ask whether or not it's a good idea to have "parents" who are on drugs and apparently unable to actually provide for children actually in charge of raising children.
America: Where you have to have a license to drive a car, but any dumbass can have a kid.
Hmmmm....this question really had me thinking.
As a Libertarian, I feel that drugs should not be illegal. Having said that, I also feel that when you are giving away free money you should be able to put restrictions on who is eligible. People that need welfare should not be spending money on mood enhancing drugs. Therefore it is a completely reasonable request to be made of all recipients.
The biggest issue for me with welfare is the children. They did not bring this on themselves. Our current system encourages welfare recipients to have more children as they get a "pay raise" with each new child. My knee-jerk reaction would be to suggest state run orphanages as half way houses for kids, but my disdain for "state run" anything makes me think there must be a better way.
I agree with Benjamin Franklin who said that "We should make the poor uncomfortable and kick them out of poverty."

I am currently on disability (LONG history of orthopedic problems). When I went to try and get assistance the woman helping with my application looked at me and told me straight up "your going to be denied because your a young white male". Sure as anything, i got denied.
The system is now set up NOT to help out those who need it, but those who don't want to work and spend their time trying to figure out how to stay on the dole.
The moment I found out I could go back to school without jeopardizing my disability, I went after it. And to think I get the strangest looks when I say I hate most people on disability, its as though I'm a hypocrite. Hell, when I was trying to figure out ways to get retraining paid for some of the counselors looked at me as though i was crazy.
I honestly think people on gov't assistance should be subject to being audited to make sure money is being spent on things it should be, and all for drug testing.

The problem is that the American people and government are never(short of a major sea change) going to start taking assistance away from people/families based on drug testing. The closest that you may ever get is government funded rahab for those who who will still get their assistance. That'd work great I'm sure.
IMO...
If you want to cut entitlements than argue for that.Asking the government to do a better job policing such things is just asking for more trouble(read:bureaucracy, abuse, and waste).
