    Who Uses a Straight Razor?

Long story short every disposable razor I've tried and most the eletric deals just don't work for me...NASTY ingrown hairs and the 2+ blade models give me nasty razor burn as well.

So I'm thinking about straight razors. High end eletric razors work OK for me, but I figure if I'm going to drop $150+ on shaving stuff it might as well be a straight razor, it'll probably last longer.

So does anyone use one and can you recommed a good model that won't break the bank? Looking purely for function here, don't need to impress anyone with how it looks. What should I be looking for in a good blade?

i use to use one till it hit the sink and chipped the blade. mine was given to me and was really old so i really dont know aboutt he best brands. but i will tell you keep it sharp, go slow and dont go across the skin. Hot lather works the best for the ingrown hairs too. Get a good strut(spelling?) to maintain and clean the edge.

I use the somewhat older fashioned double edged kind. VERY sharp and very prone to slicing your jugular at 6:00am. But it works better for me. Its hell to find blades anymore though so I order them online

I have taken to the double edged razors too. I got sick and tired of spending ammo money on gilette fusion blades and read an article that talked about the lost art of shaving. I get a much better shave using the double edged razors and a warm lather. Go to the Art of Manliness website and read the article about shaving. I have tried a straight razor and didn't like the amount of time that is needed for a shave.

I have the same issue with ingrowns, mostly because I should probably only be shaving once every two days.

Regarding the high end electric... I got a Braun, not sure on the model at the moment but it was about 150 bucks. It gives a pretty decent shave but that is the problem, too close. Now it sits there and I'm attempting other methods.

Everyone is different, and I read online some men have luck with electric razors. For me though, it was a waste of money.

Other tips I've seen are use a gel instead of foam with your razor. Also to shave right after washing your face. Another was to not stretch your face out as you shave, and to not go over the same spot twice.

Anyhow, I'll be watching this thread for anything anyone else has to add that might help.

    Listen here!!!!

Im in the same boat. go to the forums at the straight razor place and buy a shave ready vintage. WHY????? Because a new Dovo from the factory wont be shave ready. It still needs to be honed. People new to str8s like us cant properly hone a blade. Go to the straight razor forums and read all the intro articles like I did like 3 days ago. Ive been eyeing one for 45$ thats shave ready on the marketplace there.

45$ shave ready vintage is better then 120$ factory new, and then find a guy to hone it. If your set on new, classicshaving.com sells Dovo's that come pre honed shave ready.
