20 or 30 round PMag for SPR

I am in the prosses of building an SPR and wondering which mag you guys seem to favor for a rifle in this role.

Let me just say, that either way, be it 20 or 30 round bodies, the mag will be modified to be NJ legal and only hold 15 rounds.

For this reason I was leaning to the 20 round mag, but the vain jerk in me likes the look of a 30 round mag in the rifle lol. Right now I have (3) 20 round and (2) 30 round PMags modified for 15 rounds and I have to say, I like the 30 round look better. But is it a drawback in the role of an SPR? If it will be on a bi-pod for intsance? Will it get in the way?

I prefer 20 round magazines to avoid interfering with the bipod, especially when used at 6" setting. However, if you will be using a longer bipod there may not be an issue.

I prefer the 20 rounder especially when shooting from a rest.

oh I know you do... I have 3 of them lol.

Just got me thinking because I wanted to get some mag poutches and needed to decide weather to go for the 20 or 30 round ones.

    Thanks guys!

Looks like the 20 rounders are leading thus far!

I love 20 rounders. It would be rare in non-military applications that 2 or 3 20's wouldn't handle the task.

I'd be using 20 rounders since I most likely would be shooting it prone from a bipod.

From what I've seen if you're going to be shooting prone quite a bit, get a 20 round magazine.

Shooting distance (which I'd guess you'd be building an SPR for) and prone with a bipod, a 20 round magazine will allow you to adjust to hold over for longer ranges, as you adjust higher, your 30 round magazine's going to be like a mono pod that constricts movement with some bipods/setups.

Also, from prone the 30 round magazine's going to be longer, and harder to swap magazines out of if you're shooting from a bipod, in the prone. You have to move the weapon less to clear the magazine from the mag well and it's easier to re-seat a fresh magazine, with 20 round magazines.

Also as I know this is somewhat aesthetically geared, you can't legitimately take advantage of the single advantage of a 30 round magazine in your location, which is increased magazine capacity.

That's my take on it, do whatever you like, but, I'd go 20 round mags. They also, believe it or not, feed more reliably than 30 round magazines, at least in theory, because they're not curved. (I say in theory, but honestly you really won't have much issue with the magazines you're looking at, i.e., 30 round PMags)

Those are just the reasons I can see in theory, off hand. I don't own an SPR inspired AR.

I don't see any reasons not to go with a 20 rounder for an SPR where you live, IMHO.

20 rounders it is! Thanks guys!

Like I said in the begining.. be they 20 or 30 round bodies, they will be moded to only hold 15. So either way, it will be a 15 round magazine lol.

    Tanks a lot!
