So there is no issue disconnecting the external drive from my iMac and giving it to him to do the transfer?

Clean it off before you give it to him and make sure he knows it's for a Mac so he can format some FAT32 partitions on it so you'll be able to use that drive on a PC and a Mac.

nick, more than likely all of your stuff is in Documents and Settings\your_name. It won't hurt your Mac to copy it over or at least to say a 16gig thumb drive or better yet a FAT32 partition on an external drive.
