N Korea torpedoes BP oil rig?

My brother, a resident of Louisianistan, sent me this last night. A little disturbing, to say the least. Plausible?

Did North Korea Torpedo Oil Rig In US Gulf?

The destruction of a BP oil rig in the Gulf Coast has led to a lot of speculation and rumor-mongering on the Internet, focusing on the possibility that rogue Communist dictatorship North Korea was at fault.

An explosion at the Deepwater Horizon rig on April 20th killed 11 people and eventually collapsed the rig into the Gulf, sending 5,000 barrels of oil a day out and into the water.

Oil is still spilling out into the Gulf at that rate as of this writing.

BP PLC chairman Lamar McKay has blamed “a failed piece of equipment” for what many are saying is a greater natural disaster than the 1989 USS Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska.

While an oil-drilling procedure known as cementing has come under scrutiny as the most probable cause for the catastrophe, bloggers and conspiracy-theorists have taken to their keyboards to fill in alternative explanations. Some point to the convenient out it gives Barack Obama from drilling domestically, as his core constituency is against the “drill, baby, drill” efforts pushed by Republicans.

Many have concluded that the platform sunk due to sabotage of some nature. No oil spills happened when Hurricane Katrina hit the area in 2005, they note. A curious point leading people to think sabotage was at fault is the fact that US President Barack Obama has ordered SWAT teams to inspect all platforms and rigs.

there wouldve been obvious torpedo damage and destruction, but since there is none. They have already examined the blowout preventer and its intact

Dumb target for an attack. Its one of several thousand rigs in the gulf.

They would be much better off sinking an oil tanker at port in Houston or a super cargo ship at the mouth of the Port of Long Beach.

But no NK didnt torpedo an oil rig....

You wouldn't be wiser to attack a tanker if your aim was to stop drilling.
That would show that wells are safer than tankers. The right kind of sabotage would look like a failure. Even if it were sabotage I don't think this much damage was expected.

If you take a step back and look at the big picture, I could see it as sabotage. I see a cap and trade bill that isn't going anywhere, a certain group of people who are against drilling for oil and coal and less than a month apart two of those industries have major catastrophes. Not to mention a certain person from that group doesn't like to let a good crisis go to waste either.

I don’t think that NK did it but I would not be surprised to find out that some environmental group tried to sabotage an oil rig and it got out of control. More then likely it was just a terrible accident.

This speculation is as stupid as it is mind numbing. It's not completely out of the realm of possibility that it was sabotage but like others have said it is most likely an unfortunate accident. No oil spills during Katrina doesn't equate to "the only possible way an oil rig can explode and leak oil is if it was done intentionally". Sorry.

And out of curiosity, what is Louisianistan?

Sabotaging stuff deep underwater is not easy. Perhaps an environmental group could pull it off, but I have strong doubts.
