    Back to the gunstore:
Personally I dismiss anything that sounds like bullshit that I hear in a gunstore (I work in one), and believe me there's a lot of it. I hate dumbass's trying to sell you everything in the world. Or employees giving out misinformation/disinformation, I've corrected co-workers when I hear it. If you don't know ask someone who does know or go find out, don't make something up. I will not try to sale anything I do not believe in nor something I know is a POS (we don't have commissioned sales people and I dislike commissioned sales too).

If it were up to me in our store I'd drop 3-4 of the gun brands that we currently stock and stock a few others. People will buy crap anyway, even if you recommend against it and then bitch when it has to go back to the manufacturer. I just don't 'get it' I guess. The old saying about the fool and his money is very true.

I haven't always worked in a gunstore and never really wanted to as I actually hate sales. I got into a major car accident working for 'Big Brown' in early 2004. This later required cervical fusion in my neck from C5 thru C7 w/replacement bone from my own hip and a titanium plate w/9 screws. Later in physical therapy and 'work hardening' it was discovered that I would no longer be able to handle the serious heavy lifting without further nerve damage so I settled w/Big Brown and found something I liked doing that didn't require lifting 70+lbs much of the day. So I went to work in a gunstore for a few months, left the 1st one and then applied at the one I'm at now. This one is great.
I work part time for a FFL/SOT with an indoor range and retail facility. Up until I found this particular store I had only ever been in one other gun store that had knowledgeable and professional employees/owners. All the guys who work at this current shop have a very big BS meter. And everyone has their own particular expertise. A few of us are the black rifle and NFA guys, others the S&W revolver guys, 1911 guys, Glock guys, etc... I am an unapologetic NFA freak, Colt and LMT AR15/LaRue /Aimpoint/Troy /Knight's Armament/Sig 55x/Glock guy - in short, just your average high quality black rifle afficionado.

Admitedly, I DO try to steer just about everyone interested in an AR towards Colt or LMT

While I like Colt lowers, I'm not enamored of their uppers. I had a 16" M-4 barrel go TU after roughly 3500-4000 rounds. I have a friend who had the same experience.

Me too. I do point out the better assembly and components used by LMT and Colt. We will becoming an LMT dealer soon as well. Colt we only get occasionally as they aren't always easily acquired. Lately we've been able to get 6520s and 6721s pretty regularly.

I can't tell you how many times I have been in a good gunstore watching a competent sales person try and tell a customer to consider a Glock or a good used S&W revolver only to see the person decide that a hi-point is "good enough".

"After all," I heard one say "....I'm not looking for a target gun here. Just one to carry for protection."

That statement was so stupid that I was afraid thinking about it for more than 2 seconds would give me cancer.

Good gunstore advice is RARE, and where it does exist it is often ignored. Que serra serra.

    Jeez, man.....I had no idea.

You don't move like a guy who has had all that work done!

We're in Raleigh. Your situation sounds similar to ours - we occasionally get Colt and have been an LMT dealer for about a year. It is really tough to talk some people into quality. The dingbats on some other sites who utter the "All AR components are the same" mantra are not doing the black rifle novices any favors.

The other day I was driving by Impact guns, and decided I should get a few more magazines for my 21 and fondle the Sig 556 and the FN rifles again.
As I'm paying for my magazines the guy looks at the package and says "13 rounds huh? That’s a big clip!" I look at him like he just put his nails on the chalk board and went to town. I thought about correcting him but I decided I would just smile thank him and head on my way. This guy replaced another guy that was a total asshat, near the end of his employment at that place; I could never get out of there with out him making some oddball comment that just had me scratching my head. I think the last one was something about me visiting his wife in Colorado… That one left me totally confused and shocked, I just tried to smile and be as polite as I could, and I got the hell out of there.
I have run into lots of other assholes at gun shows, one that comes to mind had a table of knives and I wanted to look at his M9 bayonets, I look and thank him, and go onto the next table, then I hear someone yelling over at my direction about him having the best price and some other stuff, I’m thinking wow… what the hell did I do to set him off, I just smile and try and get away while he is walking towards me still yelling, I just pretend not to hear and head towards the door (That gun show sucked anyways) he eventually stops as I get close to the exit.

I’m starting to think I have one of those faces that just pisses people off… I never say anything rude and never correct the goofballs.

There are a few really good gun stores that treat me right; I try to be very loyal to them.

That is a huge pet peeve of mine. Where does everyone pick up this blatantly wrong term?

Physical therapy made a big difference. Along with Neurontin an muscle relaxers, I'm off all that stuff now but occasionally get some aches and pains. I can feel in my neck pain when the weather is turning etc and it kept me from applying for jobs in Law Enforcement (I wanted to apply to be an Air Marshall but there's no way I could take the hand-to-hand and blows to the head without more neck injury).

Big Brown is hard on ones body. I had 3 injuries in 4yrs working for them. So now I have arthritis in my right knee from an impact on a loading dock (also in the freezing rain) in 2001 and in my neck from the fusion. Driving the big trucks w/manual steering also gave me CTS, I had my right hand corrected in 2000, it's in my left hand but not bad and it's back in the right hand but not very bad.

I wish. Bernie doesn't want to. I guess I could get it, but then I really wouldn't be an employee as I would be 100% busy with that stuff.

Everyone in Western PA calls them clips.

The only people who don't are in training classes.
