Rail panels or ladders?

What are the differences in the rail panels and ladders by the diff makers? How long are each and what's prefered?

They will be for a 10.5" upper.

About 7 or 8" I've never measured either.

7" are the length of most and that's so they completely cover a 7" railed handguard.
