    1. Why do yo want an SBR? Home defense, no car, train in desert
    2. What is the maximum distance at which you require you ammunition to perform as desired? Not far , any ammo, not LEO
    3. How Flexible is your ammunition selection (i.e. are you restricted to department or agency issued ammunition?)? My choice
    4. Do you intend to add a suppressor? Oh Yes at some point
    5. If so, do you know which suppressor you'll be adding? Oh No
    6. If so, is it a QD suppressor with a mount and what mount is it? Will be QD, what mount ???
    7. etc. This is going to be expensive
I started my study a while back. I'm trying to learn more. I just put a Brakeout on one of my 16's, but for the Brakeout, not the can. I like the idea of Surefire cans with minimal POI shift. What is the average length a can adds? 4/6 inches?

The Surefire option will probably serve you well - the 556k is a 6" can, and there's even shorter versions that cut an inch and an ounce off the weight - down the road those make a lot of sense, along with an AAC M4-2k, Gemtech G5, or the KAC NT4.

Based on what you have right now though, you might do well running a 14.7"/14.5" unit with a pinned hider, and then either shorten that or use that upper for a time until you have a suppressor, then run a new upper with it.
A Title1 lightweight upper will handle as well, with the exception of the weight issue.

I suggest this since I've decided to give this route a try - making a 14.5" A2X lightweight, while I'm accumulating parts for a 10.5" suppressed unit that will be set up identically except for barrel (Both VTAC Extreme 9.0 HG, X300 at 12:00, DD Front Sight, AFG, Aimpoint H-1 and MBUS Rear)

I intend on building a second SBR using a Kino configuration - I'm leaning towards a 12.5" barrel with a middy URX.

Question: Where does the term "Kino configuration" derive from?

ETA: Is it still technically a Kino build if I don't have an A2 FSB?

AFAIK, 12.5" barrel with a carbine length gas system and low profile gas block under a mid-length handguard/rail system. Then an A2 FSB pinned just beyond the handguard.
