    Magpul Mossberg project

This is a summary of my Mossberg 590/ Magpul Moe project. I have had this 590 since I turned 18, now 27, and it has been great to me, regardless of my attention to it. A long while back, I decided to go the pistol grip stock route and picked up an Advanced Technologies stock. Needless to say, the pistol grip itself left much to be desired. So much, in fact, that I had to do something about it.
I had a spare MOE grip and an idea so I took the chance of ruining the ATI stock and started cutting. Well, way before the cutting I measured and sighted the cut lines ALOT. I wanted the axis planes to be as perfect as possible. I chopped up both grips, knowing I would need the Advanced grip's mounting bracket to remain structurally intact, using as much plastic as possible. I bolted the MOE to the bracket after lots of mocking, sanding, and experiments with different hardware. I used two pins (sectioned nails) and drove them through both halves of the grip, at an angle. I did that to prevent the hardware from pulling the halves out of alignment when tightened. So once I got it all mocked up, I used GorillaGlue Epoxy, a little red locktite and hoped for the best. So far so good. Its all together and feels rock solid. Sanded the epoxy flush and smooth. Made an indent for easier access to the action break. Now all that's left is a bit of touch up paint and a good testing session. If it fails, I wont cry over it. Im just glad to have this drawn out project finished. Next step will be to under cut the grip slightly and to sand down the stock (buffer) extension to accept mil-spec stocks. Thanks for reading and taking a look.

You know that there are several sources for parts designed to do that right? The opertunity cost most likely means it would have been cheaper to buy one of them.

If the point you're trying to make with that sentence is that it may have been cheaper to Buy a different stock, I disagree. It cost me maybe 10 dollars total to attempt the Moe conversion. I am well aware that there are other options out there.

I did it for fun and because If it didn't work, I would swap back for the factory stock. I just didnt like the advanced grip and had the MOE lying around.

As with any Pistol stock, on a mossberg 500.., You have to reach up and over with your thumb. A bit cumbersome for sure, but i don't mind it. Now if this was a rifle I was carrying in battle, I would probably think twice about it.
