I went across yesterday to visit a plant & everything went smooth & uneventful in regards to safety. I even made a quick pitstop to get some refreshments that is not available in the states...Mexico has many good traits (see pic)
I met up with an old amigo (alberto) I have known and worked with in the past...we go back 10 years and he is now a materials manager for large mfg company & hope we can do some biz together. Quote packages eventually turned to current events & Alberto's wife & the wife of the santiago mayor grew up together in the mnty area and are close friends. Alberto had met the mayor in the past & you could see the emotion building as we talked how his own lifestyle has changed. Has teenage kids & there is no more real family night out any longer & living with uncertainty of narco life is wearing on him obviously. Like most Dad's, it's for his wife and kids than for himself. We both have faith Mex can pull out of this mess but not sure of when or how exactly. He told me the mayor's family is here in valley & not sure when / if they will go back home. I tell you this only to put a small face on what the solid people of the country are dealing with & to give a little insight for my passion for the topic.

sigh...back at the plant I rep, there was a rude awakening from some very smart chaps I work with during our lunch together. Now, they are somewhat tunnel visioned in their own little worlds, but several of them really thought grenades & 'rockets' are available at retail stores in the u.s.?? Now these are educated folks but it shed a little light on how the media in general has portrayed the united states as something they are not. My eng. manager wanted to get a 22 rifle for hunting & they were telling me some nonsense in regards to permits & permision from the military to own as what we have a basic right?? I've hunted and transported shotguns to hunt in mexico & the process was pretty clean...had no idea they had to go through so much. I need to get more details on how the avg civi does indeed aquire a legal firearm.
interesting day for sure.

I doubt they were a plant. What I want to know is whether or not these douches have been making straw purchases in the area.
Since they were operating in the U.S it is entirely plausible they were suing semi-auto weapons. And yes they are smuggling U.S made weapons to Mexico-semi-auto makes no difference.

my guess is you will get a follow up on where the arms originated...i guess some dope pushers can't help but do the reach around & work the straws back south.

"Narco" Offensive Strikes Monterrey
Monday, August 23, 2010 | Borderland Beat Reporter Gerardo
El Norte.com
The Monterrey metropolitan area and almost all the State of Nuevo León are adrift in a sea of drug cartel violence.
However, this tragedy did not occur overnight.
For over 15 years, the capital of Nuevo Leon was the choice for drug lords to live with their families, principally in the quiet and comfortable suburb of San Pedro Garza Garcia, "the safest city in Mexico".
In the old days, executions occurred in the rural areas of Nuevo León and the bodies were found on remote roads and empty areas.
But since 2000, rival organized crime gangs have escalated their wars against each other, with the violence now occurring in broad daylight and engulfing the city and its population.
Monterrey now lives in a state of permanent terror and anxiety, something unheard of in the industrial capital of Mexico.
Chases, shootings, kidnappings, grenade attacks, extortions and roadway blockades are now a part of everyday urban life.

4 Headless, mutilated bodies hung from Cuernavaca bridge
Monday, August 23, 2010 | Borderland Beat Reporter Ovemex
Four decapitated and mutilated corpses were strung from a bridge, in a popular getaway outside the Mexican capital Sunday, the latest atrocity as the country battles an escalating drug war.
The bodies of the four young men were discovered early on Sunday, hung upside down by their feet from a bridge near a wealthy area of Cuernavaca, a leafy city about an hour outside Mexico City, where many of the nation's elite own homes.
According to the Morelos State Attorney General's office, the victims' genitals, index fingers and heads had been cut off and left alongside the highway with a handmade sign which read: "This is what will happen to all those who support the traitor Edgar Valdez Villareal"

Indeed why would they? It's a great question, but the fact is that they do indeed acquire some arms from the U.S. as much as we hate to admit it.
My guess is that these weapons were going to be used locally by the drug gangs as it would be easier to get them in straw purchases (or possibly a burglary) then it would be to smuggle something from Mexico to here.
