Your absolutely right, the response was a bit lacking.
Basically, I also suspect that our friend Nola is pushing an agenda. Not because of anything any other member here stated, but because of his own wording and review. That is simply what my gut tells me after watching his video.
Also, I found it odd that he stated: "There are some quantifiable issue such as material, testing processes, etc that can be argued as fact, but a lot of this is simply personal opinion." I don't see this as a viable statement.
Then there was the clear implication that because he personally has never seen a bolt fail, most people here are caught up in some sort of paranoia. Almost like saying "I have never seen fatal car crash before, so I think that this seatbelt thing is really nonsense."
In addition we have: I would say, one would be hard pressed to buy a "bad" AR on today's market. That comment should speak for itself.
And finally, the bold, extra large capitals he used in his wise-guy response to your warning reminded me of a belligerent teenager yelling back at their parent.
So, in conclusion I see this gentleman as someone who has been less than forthright and also as someone who has given improper advice on a professional level. Other than that, no issue here.

Ok, well in that case, let's move past that as covered ground, and keep more to the topic as directed at Spike's questions/comments versus a critique of the one user's video review.
Ok?
NOLA:
I understand that his post begs a response, if you feel the need to respond, please do so via IM or email. Everything he's outlined has been covered ad nausem here already, there is no reason to diverge on that path again.
Thanks everyone.

As a military member (and by no means trying to speak for any other military members) I certainly do not view either of the weapon systems that I carry in the same light as a simple hammer. Folks can PM me if they would like to discuss that. I will say that I come here to learn. I do take an active approach to knowing all I can about something that I have keen interest in (be it pistols, coffee, cigars, hell even yard work). I know that I am no where near as knowledgeable as many folks on here (Grant, Rob, GotM4, and many others) when it comes to firearms, but I'm sure everyone here is knowledgeable is something that other folks might not know a lick about. The fact that most times can put that aside and simply learn is what brings folks here and not other places. Just wanted to share that.

Don't read to much into it, killer. Your source was correct, however, meeting the spec does not make the LE line mil-spec by definition. That goes for any other "manufacturer" as well. A true mil-spec gun is only reserved for said guns accepted for mil use. That is all.
"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." --George Orwell--
there are "milspec guns" and then there are guns which meet certain parts of the specification as written. Given that nobody is walking into their local gunshop and buying a "milspec gun", and all but the slowest of consumers knows this (and those that don't can pick up Guns & Weapons for LE at their local newsstand now!) talking as if that's what anyone means is a red herring at best.
I've read this whole thread from the beginning. In doing so I've decided to buy a spikes 16" mid-length and upgrade to a BCM BCG in short order.
As an AR newb I can sum up this whole thread in one sentence.
The Spikes AR is a good gun and a decent weapon that leaves some things to be desired.
If I'm way off base with that statement please correct me because ive got my heart set on an AR for my bday on 7/5 and while I could buy a BCM rifle it would not be financially responsible in my current situation to spend that much money. I believe Spikes represents an acceptable compromise for a recreational shooter such as myself that might only shoot 2k rounds a year.
