Never done the whole internet networking thing before so sorry for getting the thread off track; just wanted to clarify some questions I saw left unclarified. Sorry for the derailed thread...
    Back to spikes....

In my opinion Spikes is to the AR world what "Colt 45" is to the beer world. You can drink it (CAN being the key word here, not would or want to...), but it ain't the best of whats out there by any means.

IT's a gimmicky manufacturer; I wouldn't be surprised if they put racing stripes and ghost flames on the sides of future rifles...
We interrupt this programme to bring you an important news bulletin: the suspect in the Happy Times All-Girl Glee Club slaying has fled the scene and has managed to elude the police. He is armed and dangerous, and has been spotted in the West Side area, armed with a meat cleaver in one hand and his genitals in the other...

Not really, it's no big deal. Lot's of that to be found here good or bad.

Regardless, somehow I'm not sure if this thread weren't much better off started anew. It appears to have somewhat lost it's focus, so to speak.

It is true that I posted what it said via DD website and brought up the fact that there was different info posted throughout their site.

Going into DD in this thread was off topic and had nothing to do with it. This is why I CHOSE to not derail the thread any more with what I learned (which is what is happening right now).
I think what we can learn from this is that if you're going to buy from Spike's and you want a barrel that has been HPT'd/MPI'd, stick with the "ST-15 M4" model and shy away from the "ST-15 M4 LE" model. The ST-15 M4 is the closest analogue to the top tier brands on the chart and at $950, it costs around what it would cost you to buy a DD XV - except the DD XV has a better bolt.

The bolt should also be HPT-MPI, the suggested gun does not have a bolt that has had this done.

... which is why I said the DD XV has a better bolt.

I agree, but you weren't entirely clear in your statement.

And yes, at that price, the DD is a better choice if you need the most reliable you can get.

You can find DD XV's for cheaper than $950.00 The average cost I see on the net is $1,000.00 shipped. The cheapest I have seen was $850.00 shipped, during a sale. Others have claimed to see them for less even, but that is hearsay...
My point being: why buy an inferior rifle for "about" the same price when you can buy the better and more reliable rifle for "about" the same price and possibly lower if you have a sharp eye & some patientience.
Justifying a purchase by comparing it to another rifle that is better/more reliable, built with better parts and can be found in the same basic price range, is comical IMO.

huh, what ? did you read this before you posted it ?
why would you NOT buy the most reliable at that price point ?

'cause you can get a spider for the same amount of $$, screw reliability... thats why
