FYI, I skipped to the last page of this thread.

I just bought a Spike's Nickel-Boron FA BCG and their Battle Trigger (with the engagement surfaces polished before being coated with Nickel-Boron). It's coated by Fail Zero (I called FZ to verify this and it's true) for Spikes.

Holy crap. I'm using it in my BCM 16" middy upper (government profile) on top of an ST lower and this thing runs smoother than greased marbles on glass. I only used a couple drops of Slip 2000 EWL and replaced the gas rings with a McFarland one piece. When hand cycling, the action is SO MUCH SMOOTHER. Pics to follow.

Can't wait to take it to the range.

I live on the other side of town from ST and they accommodated my local pickup in less than 24 hours, including processing my LEO discount. Super courteous and fast service.

On another note, I got to hold a 16" mid-length upper with their middy quad-rail handguards....those mothers are LIGHT. They were hardly any heavier than my plastic middy HG's with heatshields. I was amazed. That is all.

Just posting my own experience with Spike's here. I ordered one of their stripped lowers from AIM Surplus and the magazine well appears to be out of spec. GI magazines are a tight fit and will drop free if I wiggle them out, however a PMags are so tight in there that even when fully loaded, the weight will not cause them to drop free without me ripping them out.

I hope I can get it replaced and that this was just a lemon.

Boy I know it will come as a shock to many, but I will defend spikes a little here.

The magwell on their lower has allowable tolerances. Mag dimensions have allowable tolerances. PMAG's are typically at the top of the size while most magwells hang around the zero mark (neutral). So it is possible for the Spikes lower to be at the bottom of the spec and the mags you have tried to be at the top. All are "in spec", but won't work together. Whose fault is it? No ones is.

But Grant - according to TOS you're an awful person who is simply out to persecute Spikes - you'll ruin your reputation if you keep this up!

    Unfavorable stacking of tolerances.

I would ask for a new lower. It may be in spec according to some standard but I still expect a lower to work with one of the most popular mags out there. Ive had to sand a couple PMAGS in my time but that was only a couple, and everything else works just fine. I wouldn't say that a lower that doesnt work with common/popular magazines as "normal" in my book...but my book is not "THE" standard.

So should I probably just take it to a local smith and have them shave the inside of the magwell by a small amount?
