Wow. A discount is icing on the cake not the entire cake. Do you go around asking for discounts? When I was AD sometimes Id ask if there was a mil pricing program but I didnt EXPECT it. I was not in the habit of choosing whom to do business with depending on if they gave me a discount or not. Seems pretty shitty to expect a deal. Its a way (not the only way) of saying thanks..nothing else.
I agree. I do ask if a company offers an L.E.O. discount but that does not mean I will not buy from them. It's a courtesy, not a right.
Unfortunately, some have gotten burned so many times by guys buying at a discount and reselling at a higher price, they no longer offer it.
So far as Spikes and custom builds, you might want to check further into the promises of a custom build in a week. I've seen more than one complaint about custom orders taking excessively long, or at least, much longer than promised.
Most any company is going to take longer on a custom build, depending on the customization. If you are dealing with more than one company or supplier, you have to keep that in mind.

I don't know why you feel that you are somehow entitled to a discount but calling Bravo Company's products "crap" because they don't is uncalled for. Many companies do not offer a discount.
Bravo Company's products are priced very competitevely as it is.
If you want a "custom lower" and you aren't concerned about all the other important stuff then have Spike's make what you want.

Paul donates an amount equal to 50% of his salary to the Wounded Warrior Project...that's enough of a "military discount" for me.
I've only seen one thread complaining about this, and it misattributed the blame - the problem was with a Ballistic Advantage barrel, not a Spike's rifle. Spike's built my custom lowers up in less than 3 days, no questions asked. I told them I was military and was only going to be in my home state for a short period of time on leave, and they jumped through hoops to build them up to *my* specifications (enhanced nickel-boron LPK, Magpul MOE grip, Magpul ASAP plate / DD quick-disconnect plate).
And, BTW, there is NOTHING that justifies BCM being called "crap." BCM is very close to being the best you can buy and I'd take one of their weapons over a Spike's any day of the week. If I wasn't limited on the amount of time I was going to be in the states between a change in duty assignments, I would have gone BCM all the way - Spike's sells good lowers with their brand, though, so I figured it couldn't hurt.
I also agree with everybody who thinks that Spike's should produce the certs, not because they were challenged to, but because they said they would.

I see that everyone has covered this issue, but I will clarify some things.
First, BCM has a Distributor/Dealer network. This means that the extra profit in the guns and parts goes to the dealers (so that they can make money on the product they are stocking). Spikes does not (on guns). So it isn't that Paul is a cheap, greedy bastard and doesn't like .Mil or LE.
Secondly, Paul is also a Veteran as well. So if anything you should be THANKING HIM for his service and be paying his retail prices with a smile on your face.
Just as a clue for you, no dealer or manufacturer likes someone that demands a discount. No, you are not "owed" anything and no you do not deserve a discount on EVERYTHING you buy.

If you read the whole post, you'll see I addressed the custom issue. The issue, according to the OP was the promised time frame from Spikes.
"Custom builds", especially when dealing with other suppliers, are going to take more time. No company should issue a unrealistic time frame to make the sale.
I don't consider putting a lower together with stock parts a "custom" build. But I guess anything not setting on the shelf could be considered by some as custom.

with regards to a "discount." Some manufacturers who sell direct can afford to offer discounts. Some dealers who sell at MSRP can afford to offer discounts. Some who do extremely high volume can offer discounts. But the market has already priced in the discount in most cases in the street price. Most dealers are already having to compete with those who do not honor their MAP commitments, and who will take a 3% profit just to make the sale.
Dealer discounts on many many popular products are not very high. 20-30% range off of MSRP. Part of that is then lost to having to sell at MAP or lower in order to make the sale. Then you have to pay shipping to get stuff to you -- some manufacturers charge too high shipping so the dealer has that cost, which can be significant. Then some dealers subsidize the shipping to the customer through flat rate or free shipping. Then you have credit card charges, which will be from right under 2% to 5% depending on who your processor is and what sort of card the customer uses -- things like rewards cards have a higher rate the merchant has to pay -- often a few percent more so you can get your miles or your free iPod. Then you have phone and internet costs, insurance, etc costs. Then you have to pay yourself. And you have product that sits on the shelf or does not turn over very fast so you do not get a profit from everything you bring in. All of that comes from that 20-30% discount you got to carry the product in the first place. Most dealers cannot afford to give discounts to everyone. Especially when a good percentage of your customer base is LE/Mil (like the market for high end tactical products is heavily weighted toward).
I gave discounts, when asked, on some product lines that had higher markup on it where one could afford to do it.
Grant is right. You do not deserve a discount. Be grateful when you get one (but compare to others who do not give a discount but often have a better price due to pricing to the market).
