WOAH. Stop. There are differences in lowers. Some companies sell lowers that are forged incorrectly, have tight magwells, are misdrilled, or have material defects.

Not all lowers are created the same. Colt, BCM, LMT, and DD are pretty much the standard that all others are judged against. As far as I know, lowers from Mega, Aero, S&W, KAC, CMT, etc. (making a comprehensive list would be time consuming) are almost always good to go. It seems that with other brands it's hit or miss... CD lowers have a good reputation, but some early builds had tight magwells, which also appears to be the case with earlier models of Spike's lowers... I've also heard that some have an overly tight fit with the upper receiver, such as RRA lowers, but many people like that. Companies I have not heard good things about include Olympic, Superior, Vulcan, etc.

Cool. That is kinda what i was looking for. Just seemed like the other guy was saying that the price was the primary determining factor. Do you think it is possible to make a BCM or LMT grade lower at the cost Spike's is selling theirs?

I have fired around 450 rounds through my $85 Spikes lower with $110 LWRC LPK. No issues. All the holes line up. All Pmag revisions drop free but don't have excessive wobble. The upper/lower fit with a BCM upper is perfect. What's not to like.....

Just got my Spikes $85 lower myself (no spider logo). Supposed to be not the best finish, but looks fine. Had some non revision-M PMAGs that wouldn't drop free, but a little dremel to the old mags too care of that. New ones and 20 round PMAGs drop with ease.

Both of my lowers have flared magwells, so I think those are the ones made by Aero. I've seen others that have the magwell grip like you see on ones made by Mega.

I think Spikes makes a good product and I'm thinking about getting one for a beat-around range gun...

But those serial-number prefixes are absolutely dripping with ROYGBIV.

Don't get me wrong, they can make them anything they want, but using people's names and initials for serial-number prefixes isn't really... professional. I mean, I'd like to know that the prefixes had some actual thought behind why they were used (like Noveske increments its alphanumeric serials to signify different manufacturers). Knowing that someone woke up and decided to take the first letter of the first name of everyone in their family for some limited run doesn't really speak quality or pre-planning.

And the use of acronyms for "Assault Rifle" and use of words like THUG is... well... unrefined and unprofessional. It only adds fuel to the fire for controversy.

Don't misunderstand - I HATE political correctness. It's just that I hate half-thought-out ideas even more. I'd rather have a A, B, C3, Z1, etc prefix knowing it had some logical meaning over something like JIMJOHNJACKJILL001.

Completely my opinion... so please treat it as such.

I see what you mean Skyrr.

As for your point of a "beat-around range gun", I have exactly the same idea. I have a lower I am building soon, and will add a spikes upper when $ allows. Great for shooting at the range, teaching others, and so on.

You have to keep in mind that the Spike's M4-LE sells for $800. From what I saw at their shop I'm still amazed that they can charge that little for what they offer.
I'm amazed that they're offering a complete midlength upper for $485 (after $50 coupon code on TOS) that includes a tungsten 4oz buffer. I wish it were hammer forged.

Surely you guys don't think Spikes prices will stay that way. The pricing is to get more of a fan base. Basic marketing.

I really don't get your posts in this thread. You started out sounding like a fan but the last few I'm not sure what your position is.
