Just think, if everybody ran 20" AR's there would be no ongoing debate about the 5.56 round. Wouldn't that be boring? But then you would have to read about the 5.56 being a useless round and if it isn't .30 cal it isn't lethal.
7.5" = flash bang and lethal round all in a small package.

OK - serious question. Would anyone argue that a 9mm carbine/subgun is more effective than a 7.5" 5.56 loaded with some kind of expanding ammunition?

Also: I just had an idea. A 7.5" might be an ideal place for an LMT Enhanced carrier - the gun has to be somewhat overgassed to run right, so it might be better to vent more of it and slow things down a bit?

    Just thinking out loud.

I hear what you're saying... Round, for Round stopping power in short range against a threat not wearing body armor, most likely, but more effective overall, I would say no.

OK....well, if that's the case, why all the hate for the 7.5" then? If you don't think of it as a rifle, but as a replacement for a 9mm subgun, then it starts to make more sense.

I think of it as another tool in the toolbox.

    For what it's worth:

Before I got seriously into the AR platform, I had a guy build a 7.5" upper for me. I still don't know the barrel, but it's on a Mega upper, and I used a DPMS bcg. I didn't know better. Yet the thing has not had a single malfunction, not even the first magazine... Total of maybe 700 rds through it, not a lot, but it's not that fun to shoot. Accuracy is very sub-par, and the concussion rattles your head. I did run it suppressed a bit, just to see (<100 rounds), and it's about as loud as a .22 pistol, so not really hearing safe. It now wears a PWS FSC556 comp, which makes it even louder, but dampens recoil significantly. It also shows why you don't want a suppressor on such a short weapon- the erosion the comp has been severe. And it directs some crap back at the shooter so that if I don't wear long sleeve shirts I'll end up with multiple small bloody spots on my left arm.

I also just talked with AAC last week, and they told me that they will warranty the 7.62-SDN-6 on 5.56 with barrels as shorts as 7.5".

It's really just a fun gun, but overall the reliability has been surprisingly good.

    Gear doesn't make the man...
I've always considered YHM to be as useful as a mug of warm shit, but a friend of mine who does machine work for a living uses all their stuff from BUIS to Suppressors and in his words has been very happy with the quality, makes me want to have a second look but old views are hard to change.
