    SBR Question

Ok, I have decided to go the SBR route with my next AR. I have a few questions though.

I have an LWRC complete lower. Will this be good to register and will it be reliable, or would I save some headache by selling it and going with a BCM registered lower? I guess what I'm getting at is, will the paperwork be easier if I get a registered lower?

So far I have the complete lower with Magpul CTR, MIAD and BAD. It came with an H2 buffer. I plan on going with an 11.5" barreled upper from BCM. I would appreciate any feedback you can give me. Thanks.

shouldn't matter.. the only real difference is if you opt to follow ATF "guidelines" and engrave the Form 1 (make) lower.. if you get a BCM SBR lower, on a Form 4 (transfer), the "maker" is already engraved on it.

Unless you live in the same state as BCM, you will have to pay two taxes, so it will cost you more on top of the hassle. My advice would be to register your LWRC.

I don't believe this is correct and I am sure that one of our resident dealers can clarify. It is my understanding that transfers from one NFA dealer to another are no charge. It just an extra step in the waiting process.

The gun can be transferred tax exempt from the manufacturer to a properly licensed dealer in your state. It is then transferred on a form 4 to an individual.

There is still the question of ATF and a stripped SBR lower. I don't pretend to know that answer and I believe you can get different answers from ATF depending on who is answering the question. Imagine that!

Do you still have the long wait time no matter which route you go?

Yes. The current internet trends, I believe, are showing form 1's taking a little less time than form 4's. I guess in the end, it all depends on who your examiner is.

To me, it all boils down to costs and what your budget is. Assuming you already have a lower that's good to go, you could have a registered SBR for $200 tax stamp, plus engraving fees- then slap whatever upper you want on it, after BATF approval.

OR, buy a complete registered lower for about $370, plus $200 tax stamp, plus C3/Title II transfer fees (for transfer from other than the original dealer to you) which average around $75-100 that I have seen. Then slap whatever upper you want on it, after BATF approval.

    YMMV.

I see, my mistake. Thanks for the clarification.

Registering your LWRC would be the easiest way to go, because you already have it. No headaches at all, and less waiting. Form 3 transfers to your dealer are running about 3 weeks, then the Form 4 another 3 to 4 months. You can do the Form 1 right away. My first Form 1 took 39 days, and my second took 83 days with the same examiner. If you look around you can find someone local to do the engraving. I got mine done for $10. My 10.5" runs great with an H buffer.

    Thanks for the responses.

I guess the second part to my question is: Is my LWRC lower and it's components good to go? Is their LPK quality? I'm not trying to start an LWRC bash fest, either. Thank you.
