Darn my short term memory. Thanks for clarifying it fellas.

Looks to me like it "ka boomed" but I might be wrong on that

It" ka-boomed" like a mofo!! Blew out the left side of the upper receiver and top of the magwell, peeling them back (the upper more so than the magwell), and cracked/split the upper receiver on the right side at the front of the ejection port.

    Pretty crazy.

The rifle kaboomed... it blew out the upper and lower reciever on the left side and put a 2' or so crack in a TD mag... Pat attributed it not completely blowing appart on it having a Larue T1 mount on it

Do they have any idea what caused it?
My brother saw Deliverance and bought a Bow. I saw Deliverance and bought an AR-15.

I can't find the magazine, but if my memory serves me right, Pat seemed to suspect that it was a bad round. They were sending the rifle back to Colt for a professional diagnosis at the time that the article was written. The shooter was one of his fellow instructors. He took some minor shrapnel, but jumped right back into the drills with a different weapon.

Also, the rifle was wiped down only when worn parts were replaced.

That issue is still on shelves. It was a pretty good article if you want to check it out.

I just browsed the article again and Pat implies that he thought it was a bad round, they found round the damaged was protruding out the left side of the reciever, the case was ripped apart and the base remained in the bolt, they couldn't read the headstamp.

They shipped it back to Colt but haven't heard what caused the blow up... which they have asked for several times
