Thank You for the response and for correcting me on your service record, it was not my intention to distort it, I probably heard that you served "during" the Vietnam War and screwed the whole thing up. But, in any case, great product for the money. I bought 2 myself. Without getting into details about myself, I'll say that my intel sources are pretty good. Can you please clarify the issue regarding the European CT unit this scope was made for or if it's true at all.

My sources tell me that it was built and tested from the ground up for a European CT unit, but I never asked which one. Perhaps you know and can tell the boys in here. If you can't disclose the unit's name thats fine, but at least verify that such a unit is using it. Thank You!

In respect to getting my military service mixed up I say no harm no foul.
I think you are still confused about my connection with Leatherwood/Hi-Lux Optics. I have nothing to do with that company and therefore I have no information about who they developed the CMR scope for or who they had test it.
Also I think you may be confusing their CMR scope with my CRS scope. These are two different scopes from different companies.
I don't type well so if you need more info or assistance with this subject please e-mail me your phone# and I"ll give you a call.
    Have a Happy Thanks Giving

    Best Regards

Response to Leatherwood CMR used by CTU

I have a news flash for you, the PRC has been acquiring (well stealing) alot of European technology lately and have been putting out some nice glass. Another thing that alot of people don't know is that Leatherwood held US Army contract during tha Vietnam War for their sniper rifles. The guy that designed this scope is a former Vietnam SF operator with 5th Group.

I'll try to get his name for you guys, but I think his last name is Verdugo or something like that (no disrespect meant to this brother).
David Fortier wrote about both scopes (CRS & CMR) in the Nov. 10 issue of Shotgun News. In his article, he does reference the Leatherwood/Hi-Lux CMR being used by a Tier 1 CTU, although Mr. Fortier does not mention the CTU identity.

    This supports Sandman's claims.

Mr. Fortier mentions that both scopes (CRS & CMR) are good value scopes.

From Mr. Fortier's Article: "What sets this model [Leatherwood CMR] apart from other scopes in its price class is it was designed from the ground up for a major European nation's counter-terrorist unit. So unlike its competition, it was actually designed for a Tier 1 unit and successfully passed their testing not only on carbines and DMRs but also GPMGs."

Mr. Fortier is very complimentary towards Mr. Verdugo as well, writing:

"Ed Verdugo was thinking decades ahead of his peers. A Green Beret who served with the 5th SFG and 1st SFG in 1972/73, Verdugo wanted to increase the hit probability of the "everyday warfighter."

"What sets Verdugo apart from his peers-is he not only understood the needs of what he calls the everday warfighter, but he was also willing to throw, out conventional thinking. For far too long "sniper" reticles have influenced fighting rifle reticles."

Jim Leatherwood, inventor of the ART scope, did indeed serve in Vietnam.

Much thanks to both gentlemen for serving this Country.

You can find the complete article which actually reviews mutliple 1-4x scopes titled: "Scoping your black rifle: Fortier takes a look at the latest variable-power tactical scopes, as well as a compact red dot."

And, once again, it is found in the November 10 issue of Shotgun News.

    Hope this helps.
