Sharp edges on the locking-lugs of the barrel extension are not the issue when using JSP ammunition. Lead build-up on the feed-ramps causing stoppages due to failures to feed is. The Gold Dot bullets have the least amount of exposed lead at the tip of any of the JSP loads that I have tested. So far, I’ve run 200 rounds of the Gold Dot ammunition (more rounds than any civilian or LEO is ever likely to fire in a single defensive shooting engagement ) at a time through my Colt AR-15 with no issues of lead build-up on the feed-ramps.

California Corrections, by far the largest LE user of 5.56 weapons in the state, has used the Speer Gold Dot in their Mini 14's for a couple of years now, with no issues of setback, even in Mini's, which afaik, are quite prone to setback.

I recall a press release that Fusion bullets will be available as components soon, no mention of what caliber and bullet weights will be offered.

Sorry to dredge up this part but are you sure that Speer makes the Fusion bullet? Unless specifically stated (i.e. some of the Federal Premium loads with Nosler, Barnes, etc.), Federal makes everything in-house for their branded rounds.

There's not a lot of cross-use of components between Lewiston and Anoka...

Speer definitely makes the Fusion bullet in the lewiston factory. It's plated similarly to a Gold Dot bullet, and that's where those machines are.

There is actually quite a bit of cross components between Federal and Speer. Federal loads a number of Speer bullets, including Speer TNT bullets they load in rimfire and centerfire and the TMJ's they use in some of the American Eagle loads. The LE area manger even told me that both factories actually load for each other when it's advantageous.

Does the Federal Tactical TRU Soft Point 64 Grain use the same bullet as the Fusion?
