About all I remember from that time is his stance was drug free.

I kinda think he still likes guns, just not got the standing that Bruce Wills, Ice T and Branglia have to tell Hollywood to suck it.

Quick question, more in general and from the book. The book goes into the whole selection and wash out cycle for SEALs.

    1. You can get all the way thru hell week and get thru BUDs and they can still say, 'sorry, you're not a Rock Star'. When I read the book Marcus talks about people getting all the way thru Coronado/(BUDs?) but not being invited to join the SEALs. I think the comment was that while they made it thru, they might not be the level of athlete or something to be a SEAL? Did I understand that correctly? That would seriously suck.

    2. Is the first time that someone gets shot at in a real combat, they are a full SEAL? The movie makes a side story about the blond kid (the son from Vikings?) getting to go on his first mission and being the first out the door. Is this the first time that he would ever had been shot at? Just seemed a contrast to my understanding of the Army model where you start out in the infantry, move to airborne training/(unit?), on to Rangers school/(unit?) and then onto SF (and then onto Delta?). I guess before the GWOT there wasn't as much opportunity, especially for regular line units to get people combat experience. I just thought it was perhaps an interesting insight into two different ways of developing talent and picking people for special roles.

God is my co-pilot? More like God is my invisible and un-breakable rifle sling. His ability to recover his rifle after all those falls was divine.

Loved the book, liked the movie. Understood why they aren't the same.
I just did two lines of powdered wig powder, cranked up some Lee Greenwood, and recited the BoR. - Outlander Systems

I loved the book as well, the movie was missing too much for me and I was left disappointed. It could have been far better than what it was IMHO.

It's funny, because I feel like the book added all the training/selection stuff to actually make it long enough to be a novel. Sure it helps with the back story, but it's like half the book. The movie, IIRC, doesn't mention it at all- and it's still a pretty long movie.

I may be wrong, but I was 99% certain that the Army had programs for enlistees that dropped them onto a fast-track to Ranger Regt or Special Forces.

And the description for joining the SEALs sounds right, as it sounds like what I've heard from friends who joined the Navy and failed out of BUDS almost immediately and friends who made it through BUDS, did their time, and EAS'd. Although I don't know anybody who made it through BUDS and was told that they were going to have to be a ship's cook or whatever.

BUDS, as it should be, is a selection course. Just ask Dan Bilzerian.
