Not really what I meant, his travels after the fight was over his interactions with the locals......seemed like after the fire fight in the movie it was over......

To me the book seemed much more interesting with the subtleties of the Afghan culture in general and the specifics of his case. Maybe too hard to convey in 'action movie', or just beyond Markie Mark's acting ability .

When the GWOT was in full swing an enlistment option was the "18X Program" where qualified candidates would attend OSUT instead of traditional basic and Infantry AIT, from there they would then go to jump school, SOPC, SFAS, and finally SFQC. IIRC the program has since been closed.

A friend of mine's son enlisted this way and became an 18C.

As for Ranger, IIRC RASP (replaced RIP) is an option for 11B enlistees, then they get a shot at being in the 75th after basic/AIT/jump.

Schmuck. I do know one guy who made it through BUDS and airborne, to be dropped in SQT for safety violations. He went to the boat teams and I lost track of him over time.

It still had too much of a bias in it. Catch the interviews with the guys from that unit in which they discussed how many of the personnel conflicts (especially among the officers) was overblown or fabricated.

Couldn't ****ing hack it. Getting rolled from phase III to beginning of phase II reeks of remedial training before being dropped.

    Right.....
When you get dropped just before the end of Third Phase like Bilzerian, there's a damn good reason. You're unsafe, a douche, not a good teammate or all three.

As I recall, the junior enlisted guys thought it was pretty realistic while the senior enlisted guy thought it was overblown.

I think it's a simple case of where you stand being determined by where you sit - with the junior enlistees on one end the officers on the other and the senior enlistees stuck in the middle.

My best guess for him would be all three. But I only know what I read and hear and most of that adds up to all three.
