i have read several articles that say AR's are shot out at 10,000 rds that barrels need to be replaced after 10,000 rds. whats the truth? 10.000 does not seem like alot of rds

It's highly subjective. Depending on the volume/ROF in a given time period, you could destroy one in as little as 911 on full-auto.

it's a myth. i would say maybe 10,000 full auto rounds might take it's toll on a barrel due to the heat and such associated with FA fire, but 10,000 semi auto rounds is not going to ruin a quality barrel. when your accuracy starts going to crap, then you can look at replacing the barrel.

There is no way to tell due to a wide variety of factors. Barrel type, make, maintenance, etc....
This is why there are gages in the .MIL world and a minimum yearly inspections for the weapons.

The 10,000 round figure by itself isn't at all useful if we don't know how the rifle was being used. Some are shot out after less than 1,000. Some make it 20x that or more. As Navigating Collapse and others stated, it's subjective.
In any case, it's not something to worry about. Barrels are relatively cheap in relation to the amount of ammo it would take for the average user to wear one out.

Pat Rogers is pushing a lot of guns way past 10,000. As of the middle of April Kyle Defoor's Daniel Defense DDM4 was at 19,500 with zero issues.
I plan to get there one of these days....

Depends on the quality of the barrel. I think the policy for replacing the barrel for the military was 20k rounds (someone please correct me if this is erroneous - my memory isn't what it used to be).
I have a 10.5" LWRCI M-6A1 upper that has over 11k rounds and I have not seen any loss in accuracy. And this was made before they went to the in-house CHF barrels. YMMV.
