Finally getting around to doing an assembly...
Intermediate Engagement/Interdiction Rifle
BCM 16" Mid-Length Upper and VLTOR CASV-M:
The goal for me is to put together a medium-range, relatively simple, rugged system. Primary uses will be for courses/training, and defense.
I'm in the process of streamlining my weapons, and designating a weapon for a particular role. This, is going to be configured for an, as the name states, intermediate range system. I want magnification. I will not run 1X RDS on anything bigger than a 14.5" weapon again.
My next assembly will be a SBR, but currently my efforts are focused on this build.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The list of other items I plan to incorporate are:
Optic: Trijicon TR24(X)
The only consideration I'm debating on is whether or not to go for the green reticule. Being in a woodland environment, and if ever fully deployed, it would most likely be fielded in this AO, I need to do more research on the contrast and ability to track the reticule against a green backdrop. Red is a contender, solely due to familiarity. I am extremely interested in this setup due to the variability in magnification. My only concern is the ruggedness of the Accupoint series.
BCG: XXXXXXXXX
Open for debate. I am currently deciding between a BCM, and Young Manufacturing. I would like to try out some of the more exotic, treated BCG's, but I have some reservations concerning potential corrosion issues.
Charging-Handle: BCM Mod3
Been there. Done that. Have never used anything better. Have had no issues with it snagging on gear.
Grip: Magpul MIAD
I've tried A1 grips, CAA, Tapco, TangoDown, and the MOE. None of those compare to the MIAD with small backstrap for my mitts.
Triggerguard: Magpul Enhanced
Trust it more than the MOE for durability, nice to have the extra space.
VFG: TangoDown or KAC
Having tried several, these two are my favourites. The KAC wins for my ergos, but the TD comes out in terms of modularity.
Stock: VLTOR iMod
Being an improved Modstock, I don't see how this can be anything less than stellar. Solid/repeatable cheek-weld, onboard storage, excellent ergos.
Trigger: XXXXXXXXX
Open for debate. A solid, single-stage trigger, unless someone can convince me that a two-stage is rugged enough to risk my life with it.
Receiver Extension: XXXXXXXXX
Open for debate. I am highly interested in VLTOR's, but I don't believe I can replicate the type of endplate-staking that BCM and Colt do.
Selector Switch: XXXXXXXXX
Open for debate. Considering something ambidextrous, but I need to do my homework on the reliability.
Light: XXXXXXXXX
Open for debate. I'd like to try a Surefire LED weaponlight...Scout Light to save weight, M952V to get laid...
Sling: XXXXXXXXX
Open for debate. Will go with a reputable maker. Single point all the way. If I have a need to carry this thing in a defensive role, comfort can hit the road. After my experience switching to a two-point sling, I will never use anything other than single-point from here out.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's of course odd considerations, such as the potential addition of a laser as a redundancy, or an offset MRDS.
First order of business is getting out the punch and ditching the front sling swivel...

. I am smitten by Colt's and BCM's staking style, and I am thoroughly convinced there's no way I could do a better job on my own.
