Picked Up A New Spas 12

Well after about 14 years of off and on searching I pulled the trigger and picked up one of my favorite shotguns, aside from the AA12.

I picked up the latest model Spas 12 brand new in the box with the pricetag still attached.. Threw some of my Benelli accessories on it..

I've got to ask...what the hell is that big "hook" on the stock for?

I've never seen a SPAS12 in person, either...
I'm no expert, but I took my CCW course at a Holiday Inn Express

I've had the same SPAS 12 ever since 1985. It was a hell of a lot of fun back in the day.

I have wanted one since 1994 and finally pulled the trigger since I have picked up my other favorites...

Had one of those in something like 1989/1990 or so.

Seeing Terminator when I was 13 had a hell of an effect on me.

I eventually traded it for an IMI UZI Model A.

Growing up on '80s action movies, I always wanted a SPAS-12. Then I found one in a local pawn shop, handled it, and said "It's a clumsy, heavy alternative to an 870". It's got CDI factor, for sure, but I don't think it's all that practical.

Cool. Makes me want to check Gunbroker for one or maybe a Law 12. God I miss the 80's!

My brother bought one about a year after the first Terminator movie and I actually carried it as my patrol shotgun my first year at the SO (before we began issuing 870s). It is an iconic weapon and never failed to apparently stun bad people when they saw it come out of the Crown Vic.

There's a synthetic buffer in it that went bad on my brother's after it got put up in a gunsafe for about 15 years. Got it out to play with it, and it failed to function properly and chunks of acorn colored plastic fell out.

There is or was a guy making an improved version of that part; google SPAS 12 parts, he had a website. Need to pick up a couple of them.

Wish like everything we'd gotten a solid stock and some of the screw in choke tubes while they were available. That stock hurts like hell when you shoot full power loads in it. We put a foam sleeve on the stock.

And parts availability is always the bugaboo with European arms. They stop manufacturing the guns, they immediately cease production of replacement parts.
