How fast should me draw and first shot be?

What is a reasonably good time for a draw? Timing myself from a Safariland 6004 my first shot hits the target at around 1.3-1.6 seconds. I know I am faster from my other holsters, but the Safariland is my go to holster. I figure I should be around 1 second, but I am finding it difficult with the distance of the drop leg and the hood.

A one second draw from a 6004 is kind of a tall order. A one second draw from any real-world holster while actually hitting something reasonable is a pretty tall order.

Generally anything under 1.5 seconds is considered good.

Right. The standard is about 1.5 seconds (as that is the time a person can cover 21 feet).

One and a half from concealment or a retention type holster (ie Safariland) is considered a good standard. Of course that should be tested when completely cold to get a true reading of your abilities.

CSAT standard is 1.7. In full kit a 1.5 is a very good time for me from my 6004.

I agree, the OP is doing decently with a 6004.

I'm quite out of tune these days, relatively speaking. I did some cold testing at the range last weekend and I'm running right around 1.5 from an RCS Phantom getting good A-zone hits at 10 yards. Compared to this time last year I'm slow as molasses, but the truth is that 1.5 is not horrible from a street rig.

Drawing from concealment added about .25 to that on the average.

I'm upping my practice after that.

1sec is great for a non retention holster. A grandmaster like Todd Jarrett does this in .65 seconds or so.

Would you recommend getting rid of the top strap, so that I could move the rig higher?a
