Just buy a Knights. Its not piston...but its light and about a grand less and I have not had one issue with mine except a set screw on the trigger group coming loose. Quick fix. Don't get me wrong I'm sure that the HK will be an amazing piece...should be at that price. Maybe I'm not comparing apples to apples....

That price is actually COMPETITIVE with the "proper" ACR Model.

    Still a bit too rich!!

They are already earning quite a reputation in Europe, and the USMC have adopted it with a heavy barrel as a SAW replacement.
Its not replacing the SAW. Some have speculated that it is a way for the USMC to adopt a new rifle.

I think you overestimate the advantages of a piston AR.

The Marines have been very crafty in their acquisition of the M27.

As for the MR556. It's bloated and expensive. I simply have no need for a 9lbs 16" carbine.

I've been contemplating replacing my LWRCi with a KAC as SHTF gun.

(Buying another one, and modding it up a little.)

Perhaps. I don't think the average shooter would see the benefits to the design. As a military rifle with full auto capability though, I think it would be superior to the M4 as it allows for the bolt assembly to stay much cooler resulting in less lube burnoff and thus greater reliability especially under adverse conditions.

As a side note, I don't see myself getting one any time soon. Not until HK offers a lighter barrel config.

If, by "not replacing the SAW," you are referring to the fact that the SAW will still be present in the USMC inventory in significantly reduced numbers, you are correct.

If, by "not replacing the SAW," you are referring to the idea that the IAR is not taking on the Automatic Rifle role (despite the totally misleading title of the whole freakin' program) from the SAW, you're not even on the right grid square, and should just stop.

As for speculation about the Corps adopting it as the new rifle, it's exactly that: speculation. The "some" you refer to are from outside the Corps and are engaging in masturbatory, John Maddenesque idiocy because that's what they want to have happen and because they lack other, more publicly appropriate, hobbies.
